3 Ways to Show your Teeth Thanks this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving dinner is a highlight of the holiday season, and if you’re in the spirit of thanks, it’s a great time to show your appreciation for your teeth. While it can be easy to neglect your oral health this time of year, doing just a few things can go a long way toward preventing oral health problems.  If you want to show your teeth you care this Thanksgiving, here are a few ways to do that.

Indulge in Turkey

Most people are aware that calcium is essential to tooth and bone health, but that’s only half the story when it comes to the minerals your skeletal system needs. Your body turns calcium into calcium phosphate, which is the compound that actually strengthens your bones. That means that, in addition to milk and dairy, your body also needs phosphorous to strengthen your teeth.

Turkey is not only delicious, but it’s also rich in many vitamins and minerals, including phosphorous. That means that a well-cooked turkey can facilitate your oral health. It also happens to be soft and easy to chew, so if you have dentures, it’s very gentle on your teeth.

Prepare a Travel Dental Kit

If you’re traveling home for the holidays, keeping up with your oral hygiene schedule can be a real challenge. Preparing a travel dental kit can make that a little bit easier. These contain travel-sized brushes, floss, toothpaste and mouthwash that can be carried around with you wherever you go. Keeping one of these on your person when you travel will make it much more convenient to keep your teeth clean.

Go For Sweet Potatoes

Speaking of nutritious foods, sweet potatoes are not only delicious, they’re also rich in vitamins A, C, and B6. Each of these has been demonstrated to improve oral health in a myriad of ways. If you’re trying to take care of your dental health, you might feel bad about indulging your sweet tooth. In that case, sweet potato pie and casserole are great ways to show your teeth some appreciation.

Your teeth take care of you 365 days a year, and that can be a pretty thankless job. These are some easy ways to show them that you appreciate all that they do.
